5 Reasons why UNICUBE uses PET material.

What is PET?

PET is also known as polyethylene terephthalate, is the chemical name for polyester. Being one of the most commonly used thermoplastic polymers in the world. It is a naturally transparent and semi-crystalline material. Well known for its high versatility in its use case it is widely available an economical and recyclable plastic (Resin identification code “1”)

Reasons & Why UNICUBE chose PET?

1. Versality
PET plastic is well known for its renowned versatility, through thermoforming it can be transformed into various products when necessary. It is also strong at being able to withstand various outside elements, extremely ideal for labels and tapes which requires material to withstand extremely harsh conditions and still perform at 100%. Through UNICUBE’s in-house testing, we have found out that PET is the ideal material to use as it is lightweight but still highly durable compared to its competitions even if it’s at a trade-off of slightly higher cost.

2. Long-Lasting Durability
PET plastic has longer-lasting durability compared to its similar counterparts. For example, PVC is known for its rigid properties, but it doesn’t withstand well against the exposure of UV rays—something PET plastic is designed to do. Actually, PET has shown great tolerance during UNICUBE’s time of implementing it within our products. As it has performed well against heat & chemicals in the fields. This extra layer of protection is needed knowing well our labels will be tampered with. As one might say, always be prepared for the inevitable.

3. Great tensile strength
Many industries have chosen PET as their ideal material due to their great tensile strength, UNICUBE is no different as well. During our time testing with various materials, PET’s tensile strength tends to stand out, as even if it is lightweight but still shows great impact strength; rather than breaking it will stretch. Some materials with great hardness like glass will never be able to replicate the same result. Label-making companies like us lookout for material like these, knowing full well that perpetrators will do whatever it takes to violate our products.

4. Extreme Resistance
During UNICUBE’s R&D testing, PET has shown great resistance across the board. With an impressive melting point ranging from 120 to 180 degrees Celsius, proving itself to be quite the heat resistor. Further testing has shown that the service temperature for PET made labels spans as far as from -80 to +150 degrees Celsius. In which case, many other labels’ adhesive would have failed at that point but not PET’s. Making it reliable to travel across the globe safely along with the product that it protects.

5. Recyclable
Using recyclable material is crucial in this day and age and UNICUBE understands it like no other. That’s why we have chosen PET as our material of choice. PET is recyclable which is actually more cost-effective than manufacturing it from the ground up. It is also one of the most recycled plastic worldwide making its resources near limitless. PET is recycled through washing & remelting or by chemically breaking it down to be made into new PET resin just to be put into good use once again.
